Yoga is a terrific experience
for children of all ages. Both physically engaging as well as mentally and
emotionally relaxing, yoga can help kids
to excel in sports, focus on their homework, relieve stress (yes, kids have it
too!) and develop good team work skills. Best of all, yoga encourages people to do
their best but in a non-competitive way. It is suitable for all levels of
fitness and capabilities.
Young children (ages 3 - 5) enjoy connecting with their bodies,
minds and breath though playful postures that are inspired by nature and
animals- such as slithering likes snakes, standing tall like trees and
shining like the sun. Singing songs with hand movements encourages creative
movement and co-ordination.
With older children (ages 6 - 12) YogaMum encourages a deeper sense of
body awareness and self exploration through practicing flowing sequences,
balancing poses, breathing exercises and creative relaxation techniques.
Partner poses and co-operative yoga games inspire positive peer interaction.
Teenagers (12+) are capable of doing yoga just like adults. YogaMum makes Yoga for Teens relevant to a teen's daily life. For example, how you can learn to 'live' within one's own (im)perfect body... how to make good choices... become better aware of posture... how do deal with bodily issues such as PMS... and how certain types of breathing can help to calm the body/mind in tests and study. Regardless of age, kids Graydon's classes will:
- gain strength, flexibility and balance with their physical bodies through
poses (asanas)
- learn both calming & energizing breathing techniques (through breathing
and relaxation exercises)
- have fun, within a non competitive environment fostering confidence,
creativity, self awareness and focus. |
